Prana Spa

by Yun,

Bali Island has offered a glimpse of paradise for its tourists. It possesses beautiful beaches, luxury hotels and villas, many different kinds of appetizing food, and unlimited options for spa and massages. Bali has been voted as ‘Asian Spa Capital of 2005‘ by AsiaSpa Magazine. Since then, spa industry has become one of fastest growing industries in the island.

Last September, I had a pleasure to experience an exotic atmosphere and a unique spa at Prana Spa. Located at Seminyak, Prana offers you a wonderful retreat to a very relaxing environment by restorative sounds and a colorful design, transforming your mundane soul into blissful sense.

With luxurious decorations inspired by the legendary Moguls of Rajasthan, Prana’s designers, painters, sculptors, and owner together blended Indian with Moroccan rustic concepts. A lofty Middle Eastern archway, a very stunning hall way with Kashmir carpet, Indian artworks, silk paintings, enameled doors, and sparkling curtains all elaborated Prana to win Spa Asia’s award for the best spa design.

Prana Spa provides a treatment from India’s Ayurvedic tradition, hot and cold stone treatments, a weight loss therapy, a jetlag remedy and a Shirodara treatment. They use fine quality products and freshly mix all ingredients just minutes ahead of your arrival, to ensure maximum mineral and vitamin benefits for your body.

My sister, my cousin, and I chose to have Simply Bliss treatment, one of Ayurvedic packages they offered. “Simply Bliss which means pure delight for mind and body begins with an aromatic footbath using tropical flowers and herbal bath salts then of a one hour massage to ease away stress and tension in your body using their own special blend of aromatherapy massage oil and followed by a one hour shiro dara treatment to calm and soothe your mind. Shirodara is a special head oil treatment. It begins with a shoothing Ayurvedic massage of the head, scalp, neck and shoulders to help melt away any tensions or stress. Your therapist will then massage and nurture the vital energy points to stimulate and energize your body system. Enjoy profound mental relaxation and serenity, as a golden stream of specially blended, warmed, medicated oils poured continually over your third chakra (located in the centre of your forehead).” *

Whereas three of us had Simply Bliss treatment, another cousin of mine preferred to experience Spirit of Bali. “Spirit of Bali is a popular Indonesian beauty treatment. They start with a hot and cold plunge pools first and then you will have a relaxing massage, using their own specially blended Balinese massage oil. Then your skin is exfoliated with a blend of aromatic spices including Turmeric, Sandalwood, Ground Nuts and Rice Kernel (called lulur). A yogurt treatment is applied to balance the PH and condition of your skin. Finally a beautiful rose petal and frangipani flower bath will conclude the treatment.” *

Right after the treatment is over, you will be served with a cup of cold herbal tea. And you will be pleased to take a shower in their beautifully decorated bathroom with the purpose of getting rid of the excess of the massage oil on your body, head, and hair. We were lucky that we received vouchers for having healthy beverages at Prana Restaurant, ranked as one of Tattler Magazine’s best restaurants of 2006, 2007, and 2008 consecutively and as one of Indonesia’s best for exceptional cuisine and service.

To conclude, the Simply Bliss, especially the Shirodara treatment, was very rejuvenating. It was a very relaxing moment when they gave a head-and-neck massage, followed by a hot oil treatment on your third chakra. I was even sleeping peacefully during the hot oil treatment until realizing that my treatment session was over.

I strongly recommend this Ayurvedic treatment for a refreshed mind. When it comes to the price, price list at Prana spa is not a bargain, but… you really get what you pay. All treatments are worth the price. So, next time you are in Bali, please keep in mind that a unique spa place with very professional spa therapists awaits you!
