Jazz and Rib Fest

category: Events
by Yun,

Ahh, finally I could smell the tantalizing aroma of the ribs mixed with a cool music playing at downtown riverfront Columbus!

Jazz and Rib Festival, one of the Columbus’ favorite events, attracted almost 500,000 people to visit this free event. They featured local jazz musicians performing on two stages, the Bicentennial Park Stage and the Genoa Park Stage. And twenty two rib vendors came from across the country to join a competition for best rib honors in some categories and best sauce honors. I saw people enjoying the sunny day, eating BBQ ribs, and listening to a free live music at this festival. What a perfect summer setting! In addition to jazz and ribs, there were also many other food and merchandise vendors selling clothes, hats, jewelry, sunglasses, and various kinds of food such as elephant’s ear, funnel cake, bloomin’ onion, bloomin’ potatoes, lemonade, and Italian ice.

We went to the festival together with some friends. So, we all bought ribs from different vendors and shared them together. After tasting many varieties of ribs, I voted Desperado for the best sauce and Smooky’s Joe for the best ribs. The Desperado ribs were a bit too dry but the sauce tasted so good. The best thing would be combining the ribs from Smooking’s Joe and the sauce from Desperado… Wow yummy!

Bloomin’ potatoes was my most favorite food at Jazz and Rib Festival. It was thin slices of fried potatoes loaded with cheese and bacon on top of it. Ohhh, seriously! It melts in your mouth and tastes so heavenly. Unlike Bloomin’ Onion that can be easily found at some famous chain restaurants like Outback Steakhouse (the one that claims to be the inventor of Bloomin’ Onion) and Chilli, Bloomin’ potatoes is hardly to find in any other street festivals/restaurants.
