Happy Thanksgiving
Time flies so rapidly. We just celebrated Halloween, and now Thanksgiving is almost here. This will be my fourth year celebrating Thanksgiving moments in Columbus. In those past years, I always very much enjoyed the Thanksgiving moments since usually I was very excited knowing that I would visit my home country not long after the Thanksgiving break ended, to spend my Christmas holiday with my parents and families.
Sadly, this year I won’t be able to spend my Christmas holiday with my families. I just returned from my trip to Indonesia last month. I don’t think that it will be worth spending a large amount of money for another trip to Indonesia. I knew it was our decision for not going back to Indonesia this Christmas so I should not regret about it. Although, occasionally, I still wish that I would make that trip, to meet my parents and families, to have delicacy food in my hometown, and much more… Nonetheless, I have to act wisely that I’d rather spend the money for traveling to somewhere else. ^-^
In my three previous Thanksgiving holidays, we always stayed at Columbus to have a potluck dinner together with friends. I remembered last year I spent more than half a day on Thursday, the day we had potluck dinner, cooking “ayam kodok”, also generally known as “stuffed chicken”. It is a deboned chicken, filled with seasoned ground chicken and ground pork. At that time, I prepared for the worst. Just in case that I couldn’t properly debone the chicken, I would make the supposed-to-be-deboned chicken as “galantine” or “meat loaf”. Yet, I almost couldn’t believe that I could successfully debone the chicken from the inside out all by myself. It was time consuming, exhausting, but exciting. Wow, what a day… Due to the lengthy time spent for preparing “ayam kodok“, I haven’t repeated cooking the same dish again since last year. Hmm… Perhaps, next year?
However, this year A and I decided to spend Thanksgiving holiday in Chicago, to have another gastronomic experience. What’s else if it’s not for a culinary trip? I’ve been craving for a wonderful Korean dinner in Cho Sun Ok and mango lychee tapioca smoothies at Joy Yee’s. Those two restaurants in Chicago are must-eat.
Happy Thanksgiving for everyone! I hope everyone will get enough turkey this year. I’ll see you again after my short trip to Chicago.
